Supporting Your Significant Other Through Pregnancy

Becoming a parent is an exciting journey for couples, but it can also be filled with challenges and changes. During pregnancy, your partner may experience a range of emotions, physical symptoms, and hormonal changes, making it important for you to be a source of love, support, and comfort. Here are some ways you can show your partner that you care, and provide her with pregnancy support:

Listen and be understanding: Pregnancy can be a rollercoaster of emotions, so it’s important to be there to listen to your partner and understand what she’s going through.

Be hands-on: Whether it’s cooking dinner, running errands, or taking care of other household chores, being hands-on and helping out with everyday tasks can make a big difference.

Pamper her: A massage or other special treats can help ease her physical and emotional symptoms. Intercourse may be appropriate to continue with during pregnancy, as long as there are no pregnancy complications. Consult with your partner’s healthcare provider first to ensure it is safe for you both.

Be a sounding board: If your partner needs to vent or needs to talk about her fears or concerns, be there to listen and provide reassurance.

Offer physical comfort: Sometimes a simple hug or holding her hand can go a long way in providing comfort and reassurance. (Saying that, if she thumps you, go to another room for a few minutes…)

When a pregnant partner becomes hormonal, it can be challenging to know what to do. However, the most important thing is to be patient and understanding. Try to be empathetic, and listen to her without judgment. You can help your partner if she is experiencing morning sickness by offering ginger or peppermint tea which can help ease nausea; cooking her small, frequent meals that are easy on her stomach; and offering to run errands or do other tasks to eliminate her gagging and feeling sick.

During pregnancy, your love, support, and understanding can help make the journey a little easier for your partner. Remember to listen, be hands-on, offer physical comfort, and provide emotional support whenever it is needed. This will ensure a happy and healthy pregnancy for both you and your partner.
