Social / Dating Scene in New Zealand Clubs

When it comes to socializing and dating, different types of clubs can offer very different experiences. In New Zealand, there are several different types of community clubs, including Returned Service Association (RSA) venues, Clubs New Zealand (Clubs NZ) venues, Workingmen’s Clubs, and sports clubs. Each of these types of clubs can offer unique opportunities and challenges when it comes to dating.

Returned Service Association (RSA) venues are social clubs that are primarily frequented by veterans and their families. They are however attracting wider public members over time. They typically have a strong sense of camaraderie and community, and may offer a variety of social activities, including live music, dancing, and games. While RSA venues can be a great place to meet new people and make connections, it’s important to remember that they are also a place of respect and honor for veterans and their families, so it’s important to be mindful of this when interacting with people in these clubs.

Clubs New Zealand (Clubs NZ) venues are also social clubs, but they are open to the general public and often offer a wider range of activities, including gaming, sports, and entertainment. They may also have a greater focus on alcohol and may be more of a party atmosphere. These venues can be a great place to meet new people and have fun, but it’s important to be aware of the drinking culture and to be mindful of how much alcohol you are consuming. Note that some Clubs NZ venues are also RSA’s!

Workingmen’s Clubs are similar to Clubs New Zealand clubs, but they were traditionally associated with a particular industry or trade, such as coal miners or railway workers, and are now open to the public. Like Clubs NZ venue, they often offer a wide range of activities and facilities, including gaming, sports, and entertainment. These clubs have a more traditional working-class culture, so you do need to be mindful of that and consider it when you interact with people in these clubs.

Sports clubs, like tennis clubs, rugby clubs, or badminton clubs, are clubs that are focused on a specific sport or activity. These clubs can be a great place to meet people who share your interests and passions, and they often have a strong sense of community – but these clubs are often focused on the particular sport or activity, so joining a golf club when you don’t play golf or a rugby club when you don’t play rugby might not be the best choice for you. You may not have a lot in common with other members.

Regardless of which club you enter, be aware of the culture and expectations of each club and be mindful of how you interact with people in these clubs – especially where personal space, touching, and chatting up are concerned. Different club members will have different views on how these things should operate.
